Arrington, Plot 1 & 2 Project
One of our clients bought a building plot for a self-build house in Arrington, Cambridge. The planning permission for the project stipulated a 1m height reduction of the building, so we excavated and removed 2500 tonnes of soil from the site (equating to approximately 120 lorry loads). We undertook all the foundation work, services and drainage connections for the site and installed the foundations for the house and garage. We also installed retaining concrete, twin blockwork and rendered retaining walls, to retain the neighbours garden south of the plot and the upper terrace of the garden to the west of the plot and a large set of steps to the patio area of the house. The customer had chosen a prefabricated house, this was installed in 6 weeks by Dan Woods (the second biggest prefabricated house builder in Germany). Once they had built the house, we could then install all the landscaping and finishing to the site this consisted of paving and flower beds to the front and rear of the property. Alongside a large resin bound gravel driveway.
During the build. The neighbour who was also doing a self-build asked Summit to do the foundation work up to floor level, including block and beam and associated brickwork. The foundations were up to 4 meters deep on one side of the building. Due the ground level falling to one side and a hedge along the boundary.

Lidl Lorry Loading Bay
Lidl hired us to install foundation and structural steel for their new lorry loading bay as part of the remodelling of the new store on Newmarket Road, Cambridge.
A brief description of the works entailed, excavation of the ground, installation of steel cage, which had to be quite substantial due to the ground makeup in the area. The site was being installed over a former landfill site. All the steel needed tying into the existing wall and foundations, then we mass poured concrete slab, reinstated the brick work and made good. At this point the fabricated steel frame could be bolted down to the slab. As part of the works we had to install foul and storm road connections to the store and put in place service trenches. Upon completion, we laid fresh tarmac and put in place new line markings on the road.
Homebase Gates
We were instructed to do some remedial works to their goods access and storage area. We had to move 5m tall gates, break out the foundations and move the gates to a different section of the wall. Re-do all the road access, kerbs, tarmac and make good. As well as replace the section of wall where the gates had previously been. ACO drainage was installed to take surface water away. A very straight forward project, but due to ground conditions and subsidence on the site everything had to be much stronger than you normally would find. This included reinforced steel and tying in with the surrounding foundations and slabs.
